Rocky Mountain High might be considered John Denver's signature song, although there would have to be a couple of others in the running, and was released in 1972 on his album of the same name. It is done in Dropped D tuning with a capo at the 2nd fret and features a nice little melodic lick picked out at the beginning. This is a great example of the quintessential 'Campfire Song.'
Keep up the great work Mr. Hogan !!!

Some Rocky Mt. High trivia from Pete Huttlinger: The opening lick to RMH was written by Mike Taylor, John's lead guitar player back then. Mike was working on that lick as a guitar arrangement of Floyd Cramer's big hit called Last Date. If you don't know it, check it out on YouTube and compare the two. You'll hear the similarities immediately. John liked it and they worked it into what eventually became a huge hit for John.
